Issue # 25: What It Means To Be “Hardcore”
We have received e-mails on occasion asking what is meant when Metroflex is called “hardcore.” Most people mistake the loud music, the heavy iron, the lack of rows of cardio machines, people sled dragging in the parking lot, and lifting alongside Mr. Olympia competitors as being “hardcore.” In actuality, it is a mental approach to weight training; and we are including a small section from the main e-book in this week’s newsletter in order to help clarify any confusion.

SUCCESS STORY
Dear Brian
My name is Armando Romas, from Coahuila, Mexico. I started bodybuilding 2 years ago. I was very confused about the right nutrition and training I should be following to reach my goals. I wanted to be bigger and leaner. During one year and a half, I was doing everything that I read or listened to in magazines, books, Internet or some local, self-called "GURU". I made gains, yes, but a LOT of body fat too.
That was the case until I saw the Ronnie Coleman’s video "The Unbelievable." Then I knew the most FREAKY Bodybuilder in the world and his angel, Brian Dobson. I sent an email to Brian asking for help. He answered my email (very kind). He made me a right diet and workout and I started to burn a LOT of ugly body fat and I start to look GOOD! At this point I have plans to COMPETE in a local bodybuilding show!
I am very happy with my body enhancement, in my gym all the guys are so impressed with my look (more vascular and leaner) and my STRENGTH - without Brian Dobson, all my efforts would be a waste of time.
I'll keep listening to all his advice and building a FREAKY PHYSIQUE.

Being “hardcore” does not mean having to alter your life to be onstage at the Mr. Olympia, having to sacrifice your life for the gym, or any other extreme measures. It simply means being intense, focused, and dedicated every minute you are in the gym in order for you to become the best you can be. That's the goal for all of us! Remember to train hard, go to failure (or near failure on certain sets), and continually give the best effort you can.
Genetics are a huge factor in bodybuilding as there are “easy gainers” and “hard gainers,” with the vast majority of people somewhere in between these two extremes. Provided that you have clearance from your physician or healthcare provider, anyone can train “hardcore” because this style of training is a mental & emotional approach to training, rather than simply a training routine with heavy weights. ANYONE, therefore, can be a “hardcore” trainee since it all starts with your own mind.
Remember that even the genetic "thoroughbreds” on the Mr. Olympia stage are always looking to improve from year to year; so if they want to improve then remember that you can improve regardless of your genetics. At Metroflex, people from all walks of life train there every day; and the hardcore mentality is exemplified in numerous ways from people of all ages, athletic backgrounds, and limitations due to injury. Whether you train at Metroflex or at the most elegant health spa, consider using the hardcore mentality as it will help you get the most out of your efforts. It also makes weight training fun, a challenge, and one which will help you realize consistent progress.
